How to plan a retreat in Mexico: costs, timing, paperwork

Planning a retreat in Mexico comes down to checking what the price covers and what you sign before you travel. Compassion Retreats quotes one price for the villa and all meals and takes a 30% deposit.

A retreat stay in Mexico runs from about US$500 for a short budget week to over US$3,500 at the luxury end, and the price is a package rather than a room rate. Compassion Retreats charges US$1,999 for three days for one person and US$2,999 for a couple sharing one villa, with meals and transfers included. Read the price, then the length of stay, then the paperwork.

What does a retreat in Mexico cost?

Short stays in simple rooms start around US$500 to US$1,000 and run three to five days. The middle of the market, usually a week with private rooms and a full programme, sits between US$1,200 and US$3,500. Luxury places go past US$3,500 and some go far past it.

The figure you are quoted is normally a package. It covers more than a bed, so a per-night comparison with a hotel will mislead you. At Compassion Retreats the price is for the villa and not per head, and two people sharing pay one and a half times the single price.

What does the price include?

The price covers the villa, all meals, drinks through the day, transfers from the airport, the practices and two integration calls by video after you go home. Food is whole food from the market and local growers, cooked on the day, and diets are handled from one message before arrival.

Flights and travel insurance sit outside the price. So do the paid extras. The psilocybin session is optional, quoted on the call and paid separately, and it never sits inside a platform booking. Paid extras are the temazcal, massage, Mayan clay spa, Thai massage and extra nights. The temazcal is not included in any retreat price.

How long should you stay?

Three to five days is enough to settle and to work. Short intensive stays of two to four days suit people with limited time. Week-long programmes are the market standard for a first retreat. Longer stays of ten days or more suit people making a bigger break from their routine.

Compassion Retreats runs stays of three, four and five days. Three days lands and four days gives you a full middle. Five days lets the last two be quiet.

When do you pay and can the dates move?

You pay a deposit of 30% to hold the dates. It becomes non-refundable after a 72 hour grace window. The balance is due seven days before arrival and changes of date are allowed.

Compassion Retreats sets these terms on every booking and repeats them before you transfer anything. Get the same numbers from any provider you consider: the deposit, the balance date, the refund window and the extras.

What do you arrange yourself before you travel?

Flights are yours to book and everything after landing is covered. Fly into TQO about 30 minutes from the house or CUN about 1 hour 40 minutes away, and transfers are included from either. Travel insurance is worth having for cancellations and for medical care.

The paperwork is short. A call before anything is confirmed, then a confidential intake per person covering medical and psychological background, then a preparation call before travel. Check-in and check-out are at 1 pm and move to fit flights. Entry rules depend on your nationality, so check them with your own government before you fly.

One-day experiences cost US$450 per person and are the cheapest way to see how a day here runs. The nervous system reset retreat is the three to five day stay people usually mean when they say retreat.
